Getting loose at The Gallopin' Goose. We went for the rich history and stayed for the deep fried appetizers. It seems that both England and the US refuse to indulge in one of my most favourite patio drinks of all time - The Caesar. Bloody Mary's are all well and good, but the clamato juice really does make all the difference. Did I mention I am a major garnish snob too?

Greetings from sunny Arizona! I traded sleet snow and fun for sand and sun. Down to Phoenix to visit my lovely parents and get a taste of mid-twenties retirement for two weeks.

I have always had a soft spot for the desert since traveling there periodically throughout my youth. It might be the colour palate or the bizarro plants that manage to survive such extreme weather conditions, but I do know that I have romanticised the old west to the point of no return. I'm okay with that. Plus the local jewelry is unbeatable.

As I write this, I am under a few feet of snow in Edmonton. These photographs are killing me. When does spring hit this bloody town anyway? As an Albertan native, I think I complain about the weather more than normal.

I get excitement at your feet

My last night in Toronto turned out to be something to write home about. The Smith Westerns played with Bleached at The Horseshoe Tavern and it was UNREAL. My mind was blown last spring when I saw them at Cargo in London but like a fine wine, they're ageing to perfection... literally with the oldest member being 21.

This time around I took fewer photographs - side stage doesn't lend to advantageous angles but there is nothing quite like living in the moment at a great show especially when in the company of old friends - Mark Pesci

The night was filled with juvenile jokes and strong drinks, a perfect combination in my opinion. It ended in a party with the bands back at MP's listening to the musical stylings of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Exploding Hearts, and Thin Lizzy to name a few. What I lost in sleep I certainly gained in visceral experience. I love Toronto.

sigh.

One of my favourite spots in Toronto is Allan Gardens - a free conservatory that can make you forget what time of year it is. In our case, a very slushy January day. Not only is it a gorgeous and tranquil setting, it's free! In fourth year university we shot a music video there too. If you want to take a peek at my past, here's the sweet vid.

Unlike the graveyard, the gardens were a happening place. Who could resist these blooms on such a gloomy day? The Old Man Cactus made my year.

I lived in Toronto for four years and not once did I make it to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. It was a classic case of assuming one day you'll visit because you're a local and then it's your last week in town and you're too busy saying goodbye to be a tourist. Luckily I have a good friend, Miss Cecily, who indulges my witchay ways.

It was a dreary overcast day - perfect weather for a graveyard stroll. I made a comment about how I couldn't believe there weren't more people enjoying the scenery and Cecily replied: "Yeah, it's really dead here." Hilarious.
